Keynote Title: IoT and Big Data Applications

Abstract

Since technologies regarding Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing have been rapidly developed, big data analytics and applications grow incrementally. IoT technology is widely used in environmental management, industrial monitoring, smart cities, health care and other applications, thus it brings a vastly numerous amount of data. However, the generated data without analysis is incomprehensible to human being. Therefore, big data analytics is vital to IoT applications and further brings various high value added big data applications. First of all, this keynote speech addresses the current status about IoT and big data. Then, the six As and Cs of IoT and the four Vs of big data are introduced respectively. Moreover, some applications of IoT and big data are given in this keynote speech. Finally, a proposed framework for big data from cloud-IoT IMS is also given.

Keynote Title: Intelligent Sensing: From Macroscopic to Microscopic Scale

Abstract

This is a software and hardware co-design system for building or health monitoring, especial for smart home application. Through the sponsorship or MOE, our team developed all kind of software and hardware to monitor the temperature, heart bits, blood pressure ... and so on to secure our houses, prevent disasters and also check the health condition of residence. Both iOS and Android APPs are composed to hook up all the hardware and enhance the user experience. Even some of the sensors are designed by ourselves. Many systems are created for demonstration and a lot of national / international competition awards are achieved by our team members.

Recently, we even focus on the design of a self-powered CMOS sensor, a temperature sensor driven by a CMOS solar cell to sense the ambient temperature for smart home and intelligent environment monitoring to get rid of the use of any battery and extend of life span of current temperature sensors. The main transistors of the sensor are designed to operate in sub-threshold region to lower the consumption current and thus reduce the impact of solar cell voltage variation caused by different illuminations. The experimental results of this pioneer work is shown to demonstrate the excellence of the proposed self-powered sensor.
