The Darmstadtium

The Darmstadtium is the new science and congress centre in Darmstadt. It was opened for the first time in january 2008.
It was called by the chemical Element Darmstadtium, which was artificial created the first in Darmstadt in the year 1994. For decades, Darmstadt has enjoyed close links with science through its industries and research institutes.
In 1995, it adopted the official title "City of Science".
The darmstadtium science | congresses is an event centre created with the primary aim of serving the innovative powers of science and business as a meeting place for the exchange of ideas and inspiration.

Visitors experience a completely new sense of space and discover fascinating new perspectives between the historic city wall, which is integrated into the building and transparent multifunctional avant-garde architecture.

The Calla, a funnel-shaped flower made from glass and steel in the foyer of the congress centre saves resources in two elegant ways – it collects rain water and sucks in air. Then, depending on the outside temperature, heat is either recovered from the outgoing air or incoming air cooled by the evaporation of collected rainwater, which is also used for the darmstadtium's sanitation facilities and watering the gardens.

With a maximum capacity of 1,677 seats and a 14 m high ceiling, the "Spectrum" congress hall can be divided into two or three halls as required. The capacities can therefore be varied, e. g. to accommodate approx. 800 / 300 / 300 persons. Elevating platforms in the seating areas allow the hall(s) to be configured as an ascending "auditorium" or a smooth "dance floor". Depending on the configuration of the hall, the gallery is integrated seamlessly into the auditorium.

The darmstadtium science | congresses has 18 conference rooms on Levels 2 and 3 of the west wing offering facilities for a total of up to 1,300 persons. The conference rooms are separated by mobile, noise-proof dividing walls and can be combined flexibly in a variety of ways. Up to 300 participants can be seated in rows depending on the combination of rooms.
